Us: So what do you want to plant?

Gloria: All the things!

When we first announced our Spring 2021 at-home class, Gloria wanted to start in January. With a true spirit and growth mindset, she was ready to make this a year of a full garden experience and lots of learning - who are we to stop her?

Her and her husband also have a drive for DIY. They already had some materials but needed some clarity on how to use them and how to get set up. We had a consult where we discussed the best place in the yard for their garden and what they could grow in that space. We provided her the inside scoop of where to get the best soil in our area for happy, thriving plants. Gloria didn’t want to wait until spring, so we started her with a little winter garden of onions, radishes, carrots and violas. She did fantastically and it filled her space beautifully.

In March we began succession planting, which intends to take empty space as foods are harvested and plant the next season’s crops. So we provided certified organic, heirloom varieties that are pest and disease resistant and meant to do well in our region. She is now growing tomatoes, cucumbers, many varieties of peppers, several herbs and harvesting radish almost daily. When those plants are completely out of the way, we will add more!

In just a couple of months, Gloria went from “where to I start?” to garden-to-table like a pro!
